Bullish Trend in Tur (Pigeon Pea): Market Strengthens Due to Weak Arrivals and Limited Selling

Prices of Tur (pigeon pea) in the domestic market rose today, driven by a decline in selling at lower price levels and an improvement in demand from pulse mills. Arrivals of Tur in the producing-region markets remain extremely limited. Meanwhile, stockists are refraining from selling in anticipation of higher prices, which has kept market availability consistently low. The scarcity of arrivals in the markets, coupled with stronger buying interest from pulse millers, is providing support to the Tur market. In Chennai, the price of 'Lemon' variety Tur increased by Rs 200, reaching Rs 9,650 per quintal. Similarly, 'Desi' (indigenous) Tur saw an increase of Rs 100–150 per quintal. Prices for Desi Tur reached Rs 10,400–10,450 per quintal in Akola, Rs 10,450–10,500 in Nagpur, and Rs 10,450–10,500 in Katni.

Market Outlook: Currently, the limited availability of Tur and the reluctance of stockists to sell are providing support to prices. If demand from pulse mills persists and market arrivals do not increase, the bullish trend is likely to continue in the near term. However, it will also be important to monitor the availability of imported Tur and price trends in international markets.
