Visakhapatnam: A new cyclonic storm, 'Murasu', is looming over the southern states and is expected to strike the coastal regions of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Odisha. The storm is currently moving at a speed of 100–110 km/h, with peak wind speeds reaching up to 120 km/h.
As it is currently located just a short distance from the coast, it poses an imminent and serious threat. It is worth noting that a previous severe cyclonic storm, named 'Arnab', caused extensive damage in Andhra Pradesh and affected several neighboring states. According to the Meteorological Department, 'Murasu' is likely to make landfall between Nellore and Narmapur, moving inland over the Indian mainland. The storm's path is being observed south of Ongole in Odisha.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister of Odisha has announced a special relief package for families affected by Cyclone 'Arnab', while the progress of Cyclone 'Murasu' is being closely monitored.
Separately, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast good rainfall for November across some of the country's major wheat-producing states, which is expected to assist farmers in accelerating sowing operations. Furthermore, the IMD has indicated that while 'Murasu' may be slightly less intense than Cyclone 'Arnab', it is still likely to bring heavy rainfall to the southern states.
