Central region contributes the most to the total production of cotton

Mumbai. The Cotton Association of India (CAI), a leading organization of the indigenous industry-trade sector, has estimated a total production of 317.70 lakh bales of cotton in the country during the 2023-24 marketing season (October-September), in which the central zone has the highest contribution and the northern region has the lowest contribution. The southern states are in the middle.
According to the data of the association, during the current marketing season, 193 lakh bales of cotton were produced in the central and western regions of the country.
This includes the production of 88 lakh bales in Gujarat, 86.50 lakh bales in Maharashtra and 18.50 lakh bales in Madhya Pradesh. It is known that each bale of cotton weighs 170 kg.
As far as the southern zone is concerned, it is estimated that 73 lakh bales of cotton will be produced there during the 2023-24 season.
There, the highest production of 35 lakh bales has been projected in Telangana, while Karnataka has estimated production of 20 lakh bales, Andhra Pradesh 12.50 lakh bales and Tamil Nadu 8.50 lakh bales. Despite limited production in Tamil Nadu, cotton is consumed heavily.
Cotton production in the northern part has been estimated to be 46 lakh bales, in which Rajasthan alone has contributed 29 lakh bales and Haryana has contributed 13.25 lakh bales.
Production of 3.75 lakh bales of cotton has been projected in Punjab. In the 2022-23 season, 43 lakh bales of cotton were produced in the northern region, 194.62 lakh bales in the central zone and 74.85 lakh bales in the southern states.
