China Imports Huge Soybeans Despite US Purchase Ban

Shanghai. China's imports of soybeans from the US have not been processed for September 2025, angering the US President so much that he announced a massive 155 percent tariff on Chinese goods starting November 1, 2025.
Meanwhile, China imported a significant amount of soybeans from Brazil and Argentina, among other countries, in September.
The trade war between the US and China is reaching its peak. China is the largest buyer of US soybeans, and the halt to imports there has significantly increased the hardship for American farmers.
The latest data from the Chinese Customs Department shows that China imported a massive 12.8 million tons of soybeans in September, exceeding India's average annual production.
This significantly increased imports, particularly from Argentina, while Brazil remains its traditional largest supplier.
The United States is the second-largest exporter of soybeans to China. However, despite the start of harvesting in the US, China completely halted imports from there in September, potentially causing significant economic losses for American soybean producers.
Trade talks between the two countries have also stalled. China previously imported the most soybeans from the US, but later shifted its focus to Brazil, impacting America's market share in China.
According to Customs Department data, the 12.8 million tons of soybean imported into China during September 2025 was 5 percent higher than in August 2025 and 13 percent higher than in September 2024.
This clearly indicates that despite the complete elimination of dependence on US soybean imports, China's total soybean imports did not have any negative impact.
In September, the share of Brazilian products in China's total soybean imports jumped 30 percentage points to 85.5 percent.
