Tiruchi. With an aim to support domestic (local) farmers, the Tamil Nadu government is taking necessary steps to distribute coconut oil and groundnut oil among the beneficiaries through Public Distribution System (PDS) outlets or government ration shops.

Inaugurating a nodal centre for Thanjavur Pampara farmers, the Tamil Nadu Industry Minister said yesterday that the Chief Minister has prepared special programmes and a series of projects are being planned to support the farmers of the delta region.

After producing agricultural products, farmers will become entrepreneurs themselves and this can be made possible by encouraging farmers to focus on the production of value-added products. The Industry Minister said that farmers will not have to take money on loan for farming.

Because the government has planned to ensure that farmers get an opportunity to secure their income for the future.

Only when farmers stop taking loans from outside, its real development will be visible. According to the Industry Minister, 60 percent of the edible oil in the country is being imported from abroad, to curb which it is necessary to increase indigenous production.

There is a good production of groundnut and coconut in the delta region of Tamil Nadu. If the distribution of its oil starts in PDS, then farmers can get an incentive to increase production.
