The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) reported a private export sale of 125,000 metric tons of corn to Colombia this morning. According to Monday morning’s Export Inspections report, 2.05 million metric tons (79.94 million bushels) of corn were shipped in the week ending February 19. This marked the second-largest weekly total of the current marketing year. Shipments were 33.26% higher than the previous week and 71.91% above the same week last year.
Japan was the leading destination with 445,467 metric tons, followed by Mexico with 416,671 metric tons and South Korea with 404,881 metric tons. Since September 1, total corn shipments for the marketing year have reached 37.745 million metric tons (1.486 billion bushels), up 45.64% from the same period last year.
According to AgRural, Brazil’s first corn crop is 28% harvested, lagging behind the 37% average pace. The second crop is 50% planted, compared to the normal average of 64%.
