ICE cotton futures closed Wednesday’s session with gains of 20 to 33 points. Crude oil futures rose $1.63 per barrel to $56.90, while the US dollar index was up 0.201 at 97.995.
During the week ending December 2, spec traders reduced their net short position in cotton futures and options by 2,212 contracts, taking the total net short to 59,787 contracts.
Tuesday’s online auction from The Seam showed sales of 5,155 bales at an average price of 61.24 cents per pound. The Cotlook A Index rose 5 points on December 15 to 73.90 cents. ICE certified cotton stocks fell by 78 bales on December 16 to 12,396 bales. The Adjusted World Price was updated to 50.39 cents per pound last week and will be updated again on Thursday.
