Cotton futures on ICE posted gains of 25 to 30 points in the front months on Thursday. Crude oil futures fell $1.72 to $62.91 per barrel, while the U.S. Dollar Index rose 0.090 to 96.92.
The National Cotton Council annual survey estimates total U.S. cotton planted area at 9 million acres this year.
USDA reported cotton export sales of 231,031 RB for the week ending February 5. That was lower than the previous week but 22.3% above the same week last year. Vietnam purchased 95,400 RB, Turkey bought 45,800 RB, and Pakistan purchased 27,600 RB. Shipments totaled 188,597 RB, a three-week low.
The Seam reported sales of 11,722 bales on February 11 at an average price of 57.17 cents per pound. The Cotlook A Index was unchanged at 73.30 cents. ICE certified cotton stocks increased by 3,136 bales to 102,232 bales. The Adjusted World Price declined to 49.39 cents per pound, down 39 points from the previous week.
