Decline in Tur Sowing Reported
★ According to data from the Agriculture Ministry and various state agriculture departments, as of September 12, 2025, tur (pigeon pea) sowing in the country has reached 45.81 lakh hectares, compared to 46.26 lakh hectares in the same period last year. This shows a decline of 0.45 lakh hectares.

State-wise situation till last week:
★ Andhra Pradesh – 2.43 lakh hectares, 0.09 lakh hectares higher than last year.
★ Gujarat – 2.91 lakh hectares, up by 0.64 lakh hectares.
★ Karnataka – 13.01 lakh hectares, 2.41 lakh hectares lower than last year.
★ Telangana – 1.98 lakh hectares, down by 0.12 lakh hectares.
As of September 5, 2025:
★ Maharashtra – 12.19 lakh hectares, up by 0.01 lakh hectares.
★ Uttar Pradesh – 3.79 lakh hectares, higher by 0.18 lakh hectares.
★ Madhya Pradesh – 3.36 lakh hectares, up by 0.36 lakh hectares.
★ Overall, in major states, tur sowing has been recorded at 39.67 lakh hectares compared to 40.92 lakh hectares last year — a decline of 1.25 lakh hectares.
★ Recent heavy rains have damaged tur crops in Karnataka and Maharashtra, where standing crops are under water stress. If such weather continues, productivity may be affected, which could in turn impact overall output.
★ This year, tur production is estimated to fall below 30 lakh tonnes.
