Despite the decrease in sowing of millets, the area under coarse cereals is ahead of last year

New Delhi. Although, compared to last year, sowing of millets has decreased by more than 4 lakh hectares during the current Kharif season and its area has decreased from 60.60 lakh hectares to 56.46 lakh hectares, yet despite this,
the total production area of coarse cereals including Srianna has increased from 145.76 lakh hectares to 153.10 lakh hectares.
In which maize has the highest contribution. As expected, the production area of maize has jumped from 69.36 lakh hectares last year to a high of 78.80 lakh hectares in the current Kharif season. This is the data till 26th July.
Apart from maize, the sowing area of sorghum has increased from 10.58 lakh hectares last year to 12.10 lakh hectares, area of ragi has improved from 2.48 lakh hectares to 2.63 lakh hectares and area of small millets has increased from 2.74 lakh hectares to 3.10 lakh hectares. Sowing of coarse cereals during Kharif season is still going on.
