Mumbai. According to the latest monthly data from the Solvent Extractors' Association of India (SEA), edible oil imports into the country during November 2025, the first month of the current marketing season (2025-26), decreased to approximately 11.51 lakh tonnes,
significantly lower than the 13.28 lakh tonnes imported in October 2025 and 16.14 lakh tonnes in November 2024.
Although imports of crude palm oil (CPO) increased during this period, imports of soybean oil and sunflower oil declined considerably.
According to the association's data, CPO imports increased from 5.88 lakh tonnes in October to 6.27 lakh tonnes in November 2025.
However, according to the association's data, compared to October, imports of RBD palmolein fell from 5,000 tonnes to 3,500 tonnes, crude palm kernel oil from 9,500 tonnes to 1,850 tonnes, rapeseed (canola) oil from 10,000 tonnes to 5,000 tonnes, crude soybean oil from 4.15 lakh tonnes to 3.71 lakh tonnes,
and crude sunflower oil from 2.58 lakh tonnes to 1.43 lakh tonnes in November 2025. Previously, in November 2024, the country witnessed a massive import of 16.14 lakh tonnes of edible oils,
including 2.85 lakh tonnes of RBD palmolein, 5.47 lakh tonnes of crude palm oil, 3.41 lakh tonnes of crude sunflower oil, 6,000 tonnes of refined sunflower oil, 4.08 lakh tonnes of crude soybean oil,
slightly over 16,000 tonnes of refined soybean oil, 22 tonnes of rapeseed/canola oil, and 10,000 tonnes of crude palm kernel oil.
In October 2025, 40,000 tonnes each of refined soybean oil and refined sunflower oil were imported, but there were no imports of these oils in November 2025.
The high global market prices of soybean and sunflower oils reduced the interest of Indian refiners in purchasing them, but their activity in importing cheaper crude palm oil (CPO) remained strong.
Due to the weak exchange rate of the Indian currency, the cost of importing edible oils is high, and therefore, imports may decrease further in December.
