New Delhi. Visiting US Senators have said that they are in India to advocate for the interests of pulse producers from the state of Montana, who are troubled by high import duties in India. An appeal has also been made to the US President to intervene in this matter. If the US President puts pressure on India to reduce import duties on pulses, the Senators have said they would fully support such an effort. It is noteworthy that Montana is a leading pulse-producing state in the US, and large-scale pulse cultivation also takes place in North Dakota. Lawmakers from both these states are actively working to promote imports of US pulses into India.

Recently, the Senators sent a letter to the US President stating that before signing any bilateral trade agreement with India, provisions must be included to create a more favorable environment for the import of US pulses. According to the Senators, there is a need to further strengthen trade and strategic partnerships between the two countries. Emphasis is being placed on easing access to the Indian market for pulse farmers from Montana. The Indian Commerce Minister listened carefully to the Senators’ arguments and tried to understand their concerns. The US Senators said they would continue to work with the US President to press this important priority.

In a statement issued by the US Mission in India, it was said that the Senators’ visit to India is very significant. India and the United States are working together to resolve several unresolved trade disputes. These issues are being discussed in detail during negotiations on the bilateral trade agreement. India, for its part, has been emphasizing greater market access for its goods, especially agricultural products.
