Gandhinagar. The government has declared four districts in the western state of Gujarat as drought-affected and has planned to provide appropriate compensation to farmers for crop losses. The four districts declared drought-affected are Kutch, Jamnagar, Devbhumi Dwarka, and Porbandar.
These districts experienced a severe rainfall deficit during the southwest monsoon season, accompanied by high temperatures. Consequently, Kharif crops have suffered significant damage. Furthermore, there are concerns that the sowing of Rabi crops may also be adversely affected.
According to the Chief Minister of Gujarat, although the state as a whole received approximately 89 percent of its long-term average rainfall, these four districts faced a severe shortage. It is worth noting that several districts in states like Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh have also been declared drought-affected due to a lack of rainfall. In the four drought-affected districts of Gujarat, farmers will be provided with compensation, employment opportunities will be created, and arrangements for cattle fodder will be made.
