Kochi. The International Pepper Community (IPC) has estimated global pepper production to improve to 530,426 tonnes in 2026, approximately 10,000 tonnes higher than the 2025 estimated production of 520,407 tonnes,
but approximately 21,000 tonnes lower than the revised 2024 production of 551,298 tonnes. Major pepper producing countries include Vietnam, India, Indonesia, Brazil, China, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, and Thailand.
According to the IPC report, with a production of 530,426 tonnes and outstanding stocks of 205,452 tonnes, total pepper availability will reach 735,878 tonnes in 2026, while total consumption is expected to reach 414,929 tonnes.
Additionally, there will be significant import and export of pepper, and a surplus stock of 205,674 tons may remain at the end of the year.
The IPC estimates pepper production in India at 74,000 tons next year, and in Indonesia at 58,000 tons. Vietnam remains the world's leading producer and exporter of pepper.
Improved production is expected there in 2026, given favorable weather and rainfall conditions. On the other hand, pepper production in India is steadily declining.
According to the IPC, India's impressive production of 126,000 tons in 2024 will decline to 85,000 tons in 2025. Production is expected to decline further to 74,000 tons in 2026.
New pepper shipments begin arriving in December, but supply begins to pick up in January and continues through April and May.
Despite a sharp decline in production, India's pepper imports are projected to decline next year due to a drop in domestic consumption. Pepper export performance is expected to remain normal.
