Government Procurement of 114.29 Lakh Tonnes of Wheat by April 20

New Delhi. Despite various challenges and seasonal hurdles, the pace of government wheat procurement has now begun to gather momentum. According to official statistics, during the ongoing Rabi marketing season—up to April 20, 2026—a total of 11,429,319 tonnes of wheat was procured for the Central Pool at the national level; however, this figure remained significantly lower than the 13,551,799 tonnes procured during the corresponding period last year.
During the current year, procurement figures stood at 4,628,395 tonnes in Punjab, 5,369,483 tonnes in Haryana, 274,589 tonnes in Uttar Pradesh, 125,804 tonnes in Madhya Pradesh, 16,461 tonnes in Bihar, 400,573 tonnes in Rajasthan, 1,771 tonnes in Uttarakhand, 576 tonnes in Chandigarh, 10,714 tonnes in Gujarat, and 1,004 tonnes in Himachal Pradesh.
According to available data, wheat arrivals across all *mandis* (wholesale markets) totaled 15,788,086 tonnes by April 20 this year—a figure considerably lower than the 19,416,224 tonnes recorded during the same period last year.
This year, wheat arrivals reached 5,073,184 tonnes in Punjab, 7,693,873 tonnes in Haryana, 677,010 tonnes in Uttar Pradesh, 1,566,295 tonnes in Madhya Pradesh, 16,461 tonnes in Bihar, and 747,199 tonnes in Rajasthan. The trade and industry sectors are also procuring wheat in substantial quantities.
