Government procurement of paddy in Chhattisgarh starts from November 14
The government procurement of paddy in Chhattisgarh will commence on November 14, 2024, with 25 lakh farmers having already registered for the scheme. The paddy will be procured at Rs 3100 per quintal, which is expected to be higher than the market prices, providing relief to farmers facing lower prices.
The total area under paddy cultivation has increased by 2 lakh hectares from the previous year, reaching 32.5 lakh hectares. This expansion is expected to boost the procurement process.
The procurement window will run from November 14, 2024, to January 31, 2025, and the target for the year has been set at 160 lakh tonnes, up from the previous year's record procurement of 144.92 lakh tonnes.
The government's decision to buy paddy at the MSP rate is likely to further increase the procurement volumes, as market prices are currently lower than the Minimum Support Price (MSP), encouraging farmers to sell to the government.
