New Delhi. In the current Rabi marketing season, a total of 299.30 lakh tonnes of wheat has been procured for the central pool by the state agencies under the leadership of the Food Corporation of India (FCI) till June 5, 2025.
This is significantly higher than the procurement of 265.40 lakh tonnes during the same period last season and the total procurement of 266 lakh tonnes in the entire previous season.
During this season, the government procured 119.27 lakh tonnes of wheat in Punjab, 77.74 lakh tonnes in Madhya Pradesh, 71.43 lakh tonnes in Haryana, 20.33 lakh tonnes in Rajasthan, and 10.25 lakh tonnes in Uttar Pradesh.
Additionally, 18 thousand tonnes were procured in Bihar and 3 thousand tonnes each in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh.
The official procurement period has ended in Punjab, Haryana, Gujarat, and Jammu and Kashmir. Although the process is still ongoing in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Bihar, there is little to no arrival of wheat at procurement centers. The wheat procurement campaign will officially conclude on June 30, 2025, and centers may remain open until then.
This season, wheat procurement exceeded the target only in Rajasthan, while it fell short in all other major states. Specifically,
procurement reached 96.2 percent of the target in Punjab, 97.2 percent in Madhya Pradesh, 95.2 percent in Haryana, 101.7 percent in Rajasthan, and just 34.2 percent in Uttar Pradesh.
Notably, Madhya Pradesh initially had a procurement target of 60 lakh tonnes, which was later raised to 80 lakh tonnes in two phases. Procurement in Punjab and Haryana was below both the set targets and last year's levels.
