New Delhi. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted less or heavy rain in 19 states of the country today i.e. on July 11, 2024.
The important thing is that in the six-seven states of the country where monsoon rainfall has been less or very less than the normal average so far, good rains have also been predicted in the future. This includes states like Jharkhand, Odisha and Chhattisgarh.
There has also been a lack of rain in some provinces of the Northeast region. Last year, monsoon rainfall was relatively less in eastern India and in August 2023, many states of the country were hit by drought, but during the current year, heavy rains have been predicted in July and August.
This will help a lot in the sowing and progress of Kharif crops. But there is also a possibility of damage to crops due to the horror of floods in some states, which include Assam, Meghalaya, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh etc.
There is a possibility of water-logging in the fields in some areas of Bengal and Maharashtra, which may delay the sowing of Kharif crops other than paddy.
The conditions are currently favorable for the activity, intensity and mobility of the monsoon, so there is regular good rainfall in different parts of the country.
The monsoon remained somewhat weak in June, due to which there was 11 percent less rainfall than the normal average at the national level.
Despite this, a tremendous increase was recorded in the production area of Kharif crops. The shortage of rain is expected to be fulfilled in July-August, while La Nina weather cycle may be formed in September-October. It is unlikely that this will hamper the continuity of rainfall.
With the help of better monsoon, excellent production of paddy, pulses, oilseeds, sugarcane and maize can be expected in the current Kharif season.
