Thiruvananthapuram. Satellite images show that rain-bearing clouds are present from the western coast of Sri Lanka to the coastal and interior parts of Tamil Nadu, due to which there may be intermittent, normal and heavy rains at some places for the next six days. Apart from this, heavy rains are expected in coastal parts of Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Rayalaseema from 11 to 13 November and in Kerala and Mahi from 13-14 November. According to the Meteorological Department, a low pressure area is likely to develop near the Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka coast next week.
It is worth mentioning that during the 24 hours till the morning of 8 November, there was heavy rain at some places in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal. Rains occurred here due to the activation of the cyclonic circulation that had formed over the Bay of Bengal near the Sri Lanka coast. It is predicted that the rain will be heavy today as well while thundershowers are likely in some areas. The wind speed may remain between 35 and 45 kmph.
The clouds over the southern parts of Tamil Nadu and Kerala have reduced and hence heavy rains are likely there. Horticulture crops are likely to be affected due to this. The north-east monsoon is active in the southern states and its activity is likely to remain more or less till the end of the current year. The series of rains is still continuing in Thiruvananthapuram of Kerala, Jaffna, Mannar, Puttalaya and Negombo of Sri Lanka.
