Hopes Rise for the Opening of the Strait of Hormuz

Tehran: Despite opposition and dissatisfaction from Israel, the peace agreement reached between the US and Iran has raised hopes that the Strait of Hormuz will open and that the safe, uninterrupted movement of ships will resume.

The US has stated that for the next two months (60 days), Iran will not collect any toll from ships passing through the strait, and thereafter, the strait will be jointly operated by Iran and Oman; Iran has also agreed to this condition.

This news brings significant relief to India, as the blockage of the Hormuz route had been adversely affecting imports and exports.

West Asia is a crucial market for Indian agricultural products, while India imports large quantities of petroleum, natural gas, and chemical fertilizers from the region. The opening of the waterway will provide relief to India.
