Huge increase in area of ​​Tuvar due to excellent sowing in Karnataka and Maharashtra

Mumbai. Due to favorable weather and monsoon conditions and high market prices, Indian farmers are showing great interest in the cultivation of the most important pulse - Arhar (Tuvar) during the current Kharif season,

due to which its area is increasing tremendously. The sowing process has now reached its final stage. There has been a great sowing of Tuvar in both the top producing states - Karnataka and Maharashtra.

According to the latest data of the Union Agriculture Ministry, during the current Kharif season, till August 2, the production area of ​​​​Tuvar at the national level has increased to 41.90 lakh hectares,

which is about 26 percent more than the sowing area of ​​​​33.25 lakh hectares during the same period last year. Due to Tuvar and Moong, the total area of ​​​​pulse crops also increased by 11 percent.

Karnataka is at the top position in terms of sowing of Tuvar. The production area of ​​pigeon pea in this state has jumped by about 70 percent from 9.05 lakh hectares last year to 15.30 lakh hectares this time, which is more than the fixed sowing target of 15.20 lakh hectares.

This time in Karnataka, there was good rain at the right time of monsoon while the market price remained high.

The condition of the crop there seems to be better than last year and if no danger arises in the coming months, then there can be a great production of pigeon pea.

The Karnataka Pradesh Red Gram Growers Association located in Kalaburagi, the most prominent producing district, says that due to regular good rains,

farmers did not face any difficulty in increasing the area of ​​pigeon pea. The Central Government has increased the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of pigeon pea by Rs 550 or 7.9 percent from Rs 7000 per quintal for the 2023-24 season to Rs 7550 per quintal for the 2024-25 season,

while its model price at which the maximum business is done in the major mandis of Karnataka and Maharashtra. At present, it is running at around Rs 10,500 per quintal.

In Maharashtra also, the production area of ​​Tuvar has increased by about 16 percent compared to last year and has reached 12 lakh hectares this time.

Area has also increased in Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh, while in Madhya Pradesh and Telangana, the area is lagging behind.
