Boston: After the completion of pea sowing in the United States, the crop is now showing good progress. In two major producing states—Montana and North Dakota—pea plants are developing branches and leaves, and seed germination has taken place normally.
Last week, 37% of the pea crop in the U.S. was in encouraging condition, which has increased to 45% this week. On the other hand, the share of crops rated good or fair has declined from 34% to 31%, while the proportion of weak or very poor crops has improved from 29% to 24%. Overall weather conditions are considered somewhat favorable.
In Montana, 33% of the pea crop is in poor or very weak condition, 23% is in good or normal condition, and 53% is in very good or encouraging condition. However, conditions in North Dakota are less favorable, where only 28% of the crop is in encouraging condition, 66% is in normal condition, and 6% is in very weak condition.
In most parts of the United States, bean sowing has been completed, but around 50% of the crop area is still reported to be in normal or weak condition. Along with Montana and North Dakota, states such as Michigan and Nebraska are also engaged in bean cultivation.
Meanwhile, in India, sowing of pulses has shown good progress, and with the advancement of the monsoon, the pace of sowing is expected to accelerate further. In Canada, pulse crop development is also progressing normally, while some regions of Australia are facing drought conditions.
