Jaipur: With mustard prices continuing to trade above the government’s minimum support price (MSP), arrivals have been strong across major producing states, drawing active buying interest from both traders and millers.
According to data compiled by Anil Chhawar, Magazine Director at Marudhar Trading Agency, Chandpole Grain Market, Jaipur, during the first eight months (March to October) of the 2025–26 rabi marketing season (March–February), a steady flow of mustard arrivals was recorded. Out of the total arrivals, 975,000 tonnes were procured by government agencies, while the remaining quantities were purchased by private traders and millers.
During the 2024–25 rabi season, India’s total mustard production was estimated at 11.125 million tonnes, with an additional old stock of 0.9 million tonnes. Including around 0.2 million tonnes that arrived in February 2025, the total availability from March 1, 2025, was estimated at 11.85 million tonnes. Of this, 9.025 million tonnes reached various markets by October 31, 2025.
As of November 1, 2025, India was estimated to hold a total mustard stock of 3.2 million tonnes, consisting of 2 million tonnes with farmers, 0.5 million tonnes with traders and millers, and 0.7 million tonnes with government agencies.
Sowing for the new mustard crop is progressing actively, and harvesting is expected to begin by February–March 2026. Between March and October 2025, mustard crushing in India totaled 8.625 million tonnes, with 0.75 million tonnes of arrivals and 0.9 million tonnes crushed in October alone.
Strong mustard oil prices have allowed millers to continue purchasing and processing mustard at higher prices without financial strain.
During the 2024–25 rabi season, mustard production was estimated at 5.1 million tonnes in Rajasthan, 1.5 million tonnes in Uttar Pradesh, 1.35 million tonnes in Madhya Pradesh, 1.25 million tonnes in Haryana and Punjab, 0.475 million tonnes in Gujarat, and 1.45 million tonnes across other states including West Bengal and Bihar, bringing the total national production to 11.125 million tonnes.
Government agencies are currently holding a residual stock of 0.7 million tonnes of mustard.
