International Cotton Market
ICE cotton futures closed 35 to 67 points lower on Thursday. Outside market pressure was evident, with the US dollar index up 0.480 to 97.000, while crude oil futures were down $0.41.
USDA reported upland cotton export sales of 186,108 RB for the week ending September 11. The top buyer was Vietnam at 77,000 RB, followed by India at 41,800 RB. Shipments were at a 3-week low of 120,493 RB, with Vietnam receiving 55,100 RB and Turkey 13,900 RB.
USDA’s Adjusted World Price (AWP) rose 69 points on Thursday to 54.79 cents/lb. The Seam reported 4,975 bales sold on Wednesday at an average price of 65.23 cents/lb. The Cotlook A Index rose 100 points to 79.10 cents on September 17. ICE certified cotton stocks were steady on 9/17, holding at 15,474 bales.
