ICE cotton futures closed Monday with gains of 10 to 16 points in the front months. Crude oil futures fell 79 cents per barrel to $56.65, while the US dollar index declined 0.093 points to 98.300.
CFTC data indicated that as of November 25, speculative funds increased their net short position by 3,756 contracts, taking the total net short to 61,999 contracts.
Export Sales data released this morning showed cotton sales of 148,396 running bales for the week ending November 20, a three-week low. Shipments rebounded from the prior week to 120,825 running bales.
Friday’s online auction from The Seam showed sales of 8,516 bales at an average price of 59.57 cents per pound. The Cotlook A Index fell 25 points on December 12 to 73.95 cents. ICE certified cotton stocks were steady on December 11 at 13,971 bales. The Adjusted World Price was updated last Thursday to 50.39 cents per pound, down 89 points from the previous week.
