New Delhi. Over 3,000 farmers and Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), over 1,000 foreign buyers from 80 countries, and approximately 2,500 exporters and millers are expected to participate in the two-day India International Rice Conference to be held in New Delhi next week.
This conference will prove to be very important and beneficial for India as it will identify and focus on 26 countries with significant potential for increased rice exports.
These include countries like Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, and the United States. Rice export orders worth ₹1.86 lakh crore are expected from these 26 countries.
Although India is already the world's leading rice exporter, its position in some regions is not very strong. India is now focused on expanding its rice reach in importing countries, where it faces stiff competition from countries like Pakistan and Thailand.
The Vice President of the Indian Rice Exporters Federation says that 26 countries have been identified to move forward in this direction and every possible effort will be made to increase rice exports there.
According to the Federation, these countries import rice worth approximately ₹1.80 lakh crore from abroad every year. Basmati and non-basmati rice of various varieties and grades are imported there.
India has sufficient exportable stock of all these varieties of rice, hence India will be able to meet the demand of any country. Some deals are expected to be made during the conference.
