Export Inspections data showed soybean shipments of 1.324 million metric tons (48.7 million bushels) for the week ending January 22. This was down 1.54% from the previous week but 79.45% higher than the same week last year. China was the top destination, receiving 897,459 metric tons. Mexico imported 102,064 metric tons, while Italy received 67,547 metric tons.
Total soybean shipments so far in the marketing year have reached 20.67 million metric tons (759.4 million bushels), up 37.5% year over year.
Export Sales data released on Friday showed marketing year soybean sales at 33.035 million metric tons, which is 22% below the same week last year, compared with USDA’s expectation of a 15% decline. This is 77% of the USDA projection and 8 percentage points behind the normal pace.
According to AgRural, Brazil’s soybean harvest had reached 4.9% as of Thursday, ahead of last year’s 2.9% pace. The country’s soybean production estimate was raised by 0.6 million metric tons to 181 million metric tons.
