USDA released Export Sales data this morning for the week ending January 22, showing total soybean sales of 818,972 metric tons. This was about one-third of the previous week’s sales, but more than double the volume from the same week last year. China was the top buyer with 233,500 metric tons, followed by Egypt with 171,000 metric tons and Mexico with 70,700 metric tons.
Soybean meal sales were reported at 464,297 metric tons, toward the upper end of trade estimates ranging from 225,000 to 500,000 metric tons. Soybean oil sales totaled 22,052 metric tons, near the top of trade expectations within a range of 0 to 26,000 metric tons.
Census trade data showed November soybean exports at just 4.29 million metric tons (157.73 million bushels), the lowest November total since 2007. Soybean meal shipments in November were 1.34 million metric tons, down from last year’s record, while soybean oil shipments were reported at 45,810 metric tons.
USDA will release crush data on Monday, with traders expecting 230.4 million bushels of soybeans to have been crushed during December.
