Export Sales data released this morning showed wheat sales of 558,201 metric tons for the week ending January 22. This was lower than the previous week but 22.39 percent higher than the same week last year. Japan was the largest buyer with 141,300 metric tons, followed by Mexico with 96,800 metric tons and Nigeria with 90,500 metric tons.
Monthly Census trade data showed total wheat shipments of 1.616 million metric tons (59.4 million bushels) during November, marking a five-year high for the month.
The European Commission has estimated European Union wheat production at 134.2 million metric tons, down 0.2 million metric tons from last month’s estimate. Ending stocks were increased by 1.3 million metric tons, while export estimates were reduced by 1.5 million metric tons to 29.5 million metric tons.
