Isabgol Trade Slow

But Sentiment Bullish
New Delhi. Following a recent price increase of Rs. 12-15 per kg in isabgol prices, trade has been affected. As a result, current isabgol prices are being quoted at lower levels. However, sources say that the decline in prices is not significant. This is because reports indicate that sowing of isabgol has been lower this year in the major producing state of Rajasthan, as well as in Gujarat. Therefore, a price increase is possible as demand rises. The arrival of new crops will begin in March-April. It is noteworthy that Rajasthan contributes 70-75 percent and Gujarat 25-30 percent to the total production of isabgol. Experts say that sowing in the Nagaur, Merta, and Nokha regions of Rajasthan has only reached 35-40 percent. Meanwhile, reports indicate that sowing in Churu, Sardarshahar, Ratangarh, and Barmer regions is around 30-35 percent. Additionally, according to data recently released by the Gujarat Agriculture Department, isabgol sowing in the state reached 9938 hectares by December 15th. In the same period last year, sowing was done on 15640 hectares. Last year, the total area under isabgol cultivation in Gujarat was 27488 hectares.
No Significant Decline
Sources say that there is no possibility of a significant decline in current isabgol prices. Currently, prices at production centers are being quoted at Rs. 100-130 per kg depending on the quality. Trade estimates suggest that a price increase of Rs. 8-10 per kg is possible in the coming days as demand picks up. It is noteworthy that due to producers not receiving fair prices for their produce for the past two years, there has been a decline in production.
Exports Decline
Isabgol exports have declined in the first seven months of the current financial year 2025-26. In October 2025, exports of psyllium seed amounted to 4022.20 tons, compared to 5741.10 tons during the same period last year. Total psyllium seed exports from April to October 2025 reached 34741.60 tons, while exports during the same period in 2024 were 38725.80 tons.
