Ranchi: The Jharkhand government has set a target of procuring approximately 60 lakh quintals of paddy in the state during the 2025-26 Kharif marketing season, and the procurement of this important food grain from farmers at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) has already begun on December 15, 2025. This time, 783 procurement centers have been established in the state for paddy procurement, and they are now operational.

The Food, Consumer Affairs, and Public Distribution Minister of Jharkhand has appealed to his cabinet colleagues, MPs, and MLAs to visit their respective constituencies and inaugurate the paddy procurement process to provide relief to the farmers.

According to the Food Minister, paddy will be procured from farmers in Jharkhand at a rate of Rs. 2450 per quintal, which is significantly higher than the minimum support price fixed by the central government.

It is noteworthy that the central government has fixed the minimum support price for paddy for the 2025-26 season at Rs. 2369 per quintal for the common variety and Rs. 2389 per quintal for 'A' grade.

According to Jharkhand's e-procurement portal, the state government has set a target of procuring 60 lakh quintals of paddy this time.

It is worth mentioning that an important meeting of the state cabinet was held on December 8, where it was decided to give an additional bonus of Rs. 81 per quintal to farmers on the procurement of paddy for the 2025-26 marketing season,

over and above the minimum support price declared by the central government. An amount of Rs. 48.60 crore was approved for this purpose.

As a result, farmers will receive Rs. 2450 per quintal for selling their paddy. Moreover, farmers who sell their paddy at government procurement centers will receive the payment in a single installment,

thus ending the old practice of staggered payments. However, the government procurement of paddy in the state has started quite late.
