New Delhi. Although the latest data of the Union Agriculture Ministry shows that by August 2, 2024, the total production area of Kharif pulse crops increased by about 11 percent to 110.60 lakh hectares as compared to the same period last year,

due to which better production can be expected, but some leading analysts say that the future of pulse crops depends on the weather and monsoon conditions in the coming time.

In fact, heavy rains have already occurred in some important pulse producing areas of the country and there is a crisis of waterlogging in many areas, while there is a possibility of more rain there in the future.

This includes Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat etc. As a result, there is a possibility of damage to the crops of Tuvar, Urad and Moong in particular.

During the month of July, there was good rain in the country and now in August also, heavy rains are continuing in various parts.

There has been good sowing of all the three major Kharif pulses 2 Arhar (Tuvar), Urad and Moong. There is tremendous attraction and enthusiasm of farmers in the cultivation of Tuvar.

The area of Moong has also increased while the area of Urad has lagged behind. The southwest monsoon is currently active in many states of the country,

due to which an alert of torrential rains is being issued there. Rainfall in deficit areas is auspicious for farmers and crops, but it will prove to be fatal and destructive in areas with surplus rainfall.

The central government has made a good increase in the minimum support price (MSP) of Kharif pulses for the 2024-25 season as compared to 2023-24. Under this,

the support price of tuvar has been increased by Rs 550 to Rs 7550 per quintal (909 $ per tonne), urad by Rs 450 to Rs 7400 per quintal (891 $ per tonne) and the MSP of moong has been increased by Rs 128 to Rs 8682 per quintal (1046 $ per tonne).

In the current Kharif season, a target has been set to produce 45 lakh tonne of tuvar and a total of 95 lakh tonne of pulses.
