Lentil prices in Canada remain stable due to a balance between demand and supply

Saskatoon. Lentil prices in Western Canada markets remained relatively stable this week, with very limited fluctuations, as demand and supply remained largely balanced. Lentil harvesting in Canada has already concluded, and producers are regularly selling their goods, easily meeting buyer demand.
Even with a slight improvement in lentil prices, farmers increase their stock sales, causing the market to return to previous levels. The lentil market is facing several challenges this year.
Canada has seen a robust lentil production, and record production is expected in Australia. Russia and the United States are also reporting strong production. Consequently, competition in the international export market will be fierce. Meanwhile, demand in importing countries is weak.
Lentils have already fallen significantly due to selling pressure, and they are unlikely to rise significantly in the near future. Producers are being forced to sell their produce at current prices. If selling pressure persists, prices may soften further.
In Western Canada, red lentils are trading at 22-23 cents per pound, and the FOB farm price for No. 2 quality large green lentils is 27-28 cents per pound.
The price of No. 1 or Extra No. 2 large green lentils has reached 30 cents per pound in some places, but this is the farmer's price, and buyers continue to negotiate. Small green lentils are trading at 21-22 cents per pound.
