Liberal policy for rice export

New Delhi. In view of the excellent domestic production and high stock in the central pool, the government has liberalized the rice export policy again. Under this, all controls, restrictions and duties have been withdrawn. The export of white and sela rice of the non-basmati category is expected to increase rapidly, while the export of basmati rice is also expected to continue its growth. However, at present, only the export of whole category rice has been opened, while the ban on the shipment of 100 percent broken rice remains in place, which is being demanded to be removed. Exporters hope that the government may soon announce a positive decision in this regard. Apart from this, the export of rice bran extraction or de-oiled rice bran (DORB) is also banned, which needs to be removed because its supply and availability in the domestic sector remains easy like rice, but the producers are suffering losses due to the fall in prices. Its export has been banned for a long time, but now there is no need to keep it in force. In fact, this time the Union Agriculture Ministry has estimated the production of Rabi rice to jump to a height of 1199.34 lakh tons, which is 66.75 lakh tons more than last year's reviewed production of 1132.59 lakh tons. Firstly, the area of paddy increased to a new record level in the Kharif season and secondly, there was also abundant rain in the southwest monsoon season. This benefited the crop greatly and became a strong basis for increasing the yield.
Now the conditions have become completely favorable for the export of rice from India. Firstly, there is sufficient stock of this important food grain in the domestic sector for export purpose and it is available at a competitive price in the international market, while the demand for rice in the global market is also strong. Bangladesh has entered the global market for purchasing rice and Indonesia and Philippines are also looking towards Indian rice. Other traditional importing countries of Africa and Asia are also showing activeness in its purchase. It would not be surprising if the total export of rice from India increases again to above 200 lakh tonnes in the current financial year 2024-25. White rice will have a significant contribution in this.
