Massive Increase in Agriculture Ministry's Budget Over the Last 12 Years

New Delhi. The vast Indian agricultural sector requires substantial funds to meet its diverse needs, and therefore, its budget has been continuously increasing.
The government budget for the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has increased from ₹21,933 crore to ₹1.27 lakh crore in the last 12 years.
The budget allocated to the Department of Agriculture in the financial year 2013-14 was ₹21,933.50 crore, which has progressively increased to ₹1,27,290.16 crore in the financial year 2025-26.
Agriculture is primarily considered a state subject, but the central government assists states in implementing their schemes through various measures, schemes, and programs.
This significantly helps in increasing the sowing area and average yield of various crops and improving their quality.
The new schemes, programs, and measures launched for the benefit of all farmers in the country and for the development of the agricultural sector include the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi, Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, Restructured Weather-Based Crop Insurance Scheme, Modified Interest Subvention Scheme,
Agriculture Infrastructure Fund, formation and development (promotion) of 10,000 new FPOs, National Bee-Keeping and Honey Mission, Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana, and Rainfed Area Development Scheme, among others.
In addition, the Ministry of Agriculture is also running several other programs, including schemes for crop diversification, area development and expansion, and integrated schemes for agricultural product marketing.
