More than 7 lakh tonnes of pulses exported from Myanmar in four months

Yangon. A total of 7,06,190 tonnes of pulses were exported from India's northeastern neighbouring country Myanmar during the first four months of the current financial year i.e. from 1 April to 5 July 2024, which earned an income of $609 million.
According to the report of the Ministry of Commerce, out of this, 6,81,538 tonnes of pulses were shipped by sea route and 24,652 tonnes were exported through land or road border route.
During the period under review, in the pulses category, the highest export of 2.58 lakh tonnes of urad was done from Myanmar, while the export of moong stood second with 1.49 lakh tonnes and the export of tur (tuvar) stood third with 1.11 lakh tonnes, apart from this, some other pulses were also exported from there.
It is noteworthy that Myanmar has set a target of exporting 18.90 lakh tonnes of pulses during the entire period (April-March) of the financial year 2024-25. From there, almost the entire part of urad and most of the tuvar is exported to India, while moong is exported mainly to China and European countries.
After rice, pulses are the second most important agricultural product exported from Myanmar.
