New Delhi. India already enjoys strong trade relations with the African nation of Mozambique, and there is a mutual desire to deepen these ties further. Mozambique aims to leverage India’s expertise in the sectors of agriculture and food processing. Additionally, it seeks to utilize the strategic location of its ports to facilitate the expansion of trade with other nations in Southern Africa.
It is noteworthy that Africa is the largest destination for India’s exports of non-basmati rice. While India has already been successful in supplying large quantities of rice to countries in Northern Africa, Mozambique is keen for Indian exporters to utilize its ports to ensure the large-scale shipment of rice to countries in the southern part of the continent.
Mozambique imports approximately 600,000 tonnes of rice annually, the bulk of which is sourced from India. India will continue to play a significant role in ensuring food security for Mozambique. India remains the world’s leading exporter of rice.
