News Capsule: Agriculture and dairy sectors were kept out of the India–US trade agreement, allaying concerns over farm livelihoods.
★ Rice exporters expect export opportunities to the US to improve after the deal, as India’s rice shipments remained firm despite higher tariffs.
★ In FY 2024-25, India exported about 2.74 lakh tonnes of basmati rice and 0.61 lakh tonnes of non-basmati rice to the US.
★ In FY 2025-26 (April–November), basmati exports were around 2.00 lakh tonnes, while non-basmati shipments stood at about 0.41 lakh tonnes.
★ On a monthly basis, exports also showed an uptrend—India shipped 0.23 lakh tonnes of rice to the US in September 2025, 0.29 lakh tonnes in October, and 0.24 lakh tonnes in November.
★ These figures indicate that demand for Indian rice in the US market remains strong.
