News Capsule: Cotton Procurement Period Extended in Telangana
★ At the request of the state government, the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) has agreed to extend cotton procurement in Telangana until the end of February.
★ Due to the delayed commencement of cotton sowing this season, market arrivals have also been postponed.
★ This year, cotton cultivation in the state covered 45.32 lakh acres, with an estimated production of 28.29 lakh metric tonnes. So far, CCI has procured 16.15 lakh metric tonnes of cotton from 880,053 farmers, disbursing ₹12,823 crore.
★ Additionally, 2.24 lakh metric tonnes of substandard cotton have been purchased through the market. Around 9.99 lakh metric tonnes of cotton still remain with farmers.
