News Capsule: India and USA trade deal, good news for India
★ India and the United States have reached an agreement on a trade deal. Under this agreement, the US has reduced the reciprocal tariff on Indian goods from 25 percent to 18 percent. The announcement came after a phone conversation between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump.
★ The deal is being seen as positive for India. It is expected to directly benefit exports of rice, spices, dry fruits, and guar gum, along with other agricultural and agro-processed products. Demand and competitiveness of these Indian products in the US market are likely to improve.
★ Following the deal, the rupee and Indian equity markets also showed strength. Overall, the agreement has been finalised keeping India’s interests in mind. India has not bowed to the US; rather, the deal has been concluded through mutual cooperation and a balanced approach.
