News Capsule: India Records 32% Rainfall Deficit Till June 15: IMD
★ India received 42.4 mm of rainfall between June 1 and June 15, against the normal 62.1 mm, resulting in a 32% deficit.
★ Around 65% of the country experienced below-normal rainfall during this period.
★ Northwest India (including Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana) recorded 8% above-normal rainfall.
★ Central India (including Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Odisha) reported a 57% rainfall deficit.
★ East and Northeast India witnessed a 41% shortfall in rainfall.
★ The southern peninsular region (Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Puducherry) received 9% less rainfall than normal.
★ The Southwest Monsoon has covered the entire states of Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal.
★ Over the next 4–5 days, the monsoon is expected to advance further into parts of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, and Chhattisgarh.
★ Maximum temperatures in Northwest India may rise by 2–4°C until June 18.
★ Heatwave conditions are likely in isolated parts of Telangana and Vidarbha.
★ Hot and humid weather is expected over Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Odisha.
