News Capsule: Indonesia’s palm oil exports hit an 18-month high in December: ITS
★ Indonesia’s palm oil exports rose to 2.62 million tonnes in December, marking the highest level in the past 18 months. The figures include exports of palm oil, its derivatives, palm kernel oil and oleochemicals.
★ Compared with November, exports increased by nearly 52%, or about 896,000 tonnes.
★ The sharp rise in exports was mainly due to a reduction in export taxes on palm oil and improved price competitiveness compared with other edible oils.
★ Exports to India and the subcontinent jumped from 398,000 tonnes in November to 916,000 tonnes in December.
★ India imported 421,000 tonnes of palm oil in December, compared with just 65,900 tonnes in November.
★ Exports to Pakistan rose to 366,000 tonnes in December, consisting largely of RBD palm olein and RBD palm oil, while Bangladesh imported 125,000 tonnes of palm oil, entirely in the form of RBD palm olein.
★ Palm oil exports to African countries also increased in December to 182,000 tonnes.
★ Despite the strong surge in December, Indonesia’s total palm oil exports in 2025 stood at 24.35 million tonnes, only 1.9% higher than in 2024.
