News Capsule: International Market
Lentils End the Week Slightly Firmer
★ The international lentil market closed the week on a slightly firmer note. Green lentils saw modest gains, while red lentils remained mostly unchanged.
★ Saskatchewan Agriculture released its quality estimates for the year, indicating that the proportion of lentils grading No. 2 or better is expected to fall from 90% last year to 81% this year. The share of No. 3 and extra 3 grades is projected to rise from 10% to 17%, while another 2% will likely be categorized as “sample grade.”

Peas Unaffected by Indian Duty
★ Despite India imposing a 30% import duty on cargoes loaded after November 1, yellow pea markets ended the week slightly firmer.
★ Sales of new-crop yellow peas to India are slower than last year, which could further reduce import volumes in the coming weeks.

Kabuli Chickpeas
★ The international chickpea market ended last week mixed amid light trading.
★ Prices for large-caliber kabuli chickpeas remained mostly unchanged, while smaller calibers continued to show a weaker tone.
★ Although provincial agriculture departments in Canada have lowered this year’s yield estimates, their data suggests that Statistics Canada may report a significant upward revision in its final production figures due in December.
