News Capsule: ISMA has requested the government to allow the export of 2 million tonnes of sugar.
★ The Indian Sugar & Bio-energy Manufacturers Association (ISMA) has urged the central government to permit the export of around 2 million tonnes of sugar for the 2025-26 season.
★ Sugar production in the current sugar year is expected to rise by about 16% year-on-year.
★ According to ISMA, India has sufficient sugar stocks and can easily export around 2 million tonnes this season.
★ Estimated production: Maharashtra at 13 million tonnes (up from about 9.35 million tonnes last year), Karnataka at 6.35 million tonnes (up from 5.49 million tonnes), and Uttar Pradesh at 10.32 million tonnes (up slightly from about 10.1 million tonnes last year).
★ With higher output this year, sugar availability in India is comfortable, enabling the country to export 2 million tonnes without affecting domestic supply.
