News Capsule: ISMA’s latest sugar production estimate released
★ The Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA), in its first advance estimate released in November 2025, had projected India’s gross sugar production for the 2025–26 sugar season at 343.5 lakh tonnes.
★ This estimate was based on pan-India satellite imagery available at the end of October 2025 along with field-level assessments.
★ To further refine the estimates, ISMA analysed special satellite imagery of Maharashtra and Karnataka captured in late November and early December 2025, along with prevailing crushing trends and field reports.
★ According to these assessments, sugar production as of mid-December 2025 has recorded a year-on-year increase of around 28%, mainly supported by better cane yields and improved recovery rates in key producing states.
★ In view of these positive trends, ISMA has maintained its gross sugar production estimate at 343.5 lakh tonnes for the 2025–26 season.
