News Capsule: Kazakhstan Emerges as a Major Lentil Exporter
★ Kazakhstan is rapidly becoming an important player in the global pulses market. During the first 11 months of 2025, the country exported around 536,000 tonnes of peas, lentils and chickpeas, with lentils alone accounting for about 425,000 tonnes—marking a sharp rise from the previous year.
★ Turkey emerged as the largest buyer of Kazakh lentils, importing nearly 358,000 tonnes during the period. Other key destinations included United Arab Emirates, Italy and Kyrgyzstan.
★ In 2025, Kazakhstan entered the top five global lentil exporters, competing with major suppliers such as Canada, Australia, United States and Russia.
★ Looking ahead to 2026, lentil acreage in Kazakhstan may decline slightly, with farmers expected to shift some area towards peas and chickpeas.
