News Capsule: Nut consumption likely to rise in the future: NDFCI
★ The Nuts and Dry Fruits Council of India (NDFCI) said in a recent interaction with the media that in the next financial year, nut consumption may increase by 10–15%, while import dependence could remain around 80%.
★ Consumption of walnuts, pistachios, cashews, almonds, and dates may reach 14.3 lakh tons, whereas domestic production is only about 3.8 lakh tons.
★ Consumption is expected to get a boost after GST on food items was recently reduced from 12% to 5%.
