News Capsule: Punjab sugarcane becomes the costliest: Cabinet approves ₹68.50 per quintal subsidy for farmers
★ The Punjab government has approved a direct subsidy of ₹68.50 per quintal for sugarcane farmers for the 2025–26 crushing season.
★ The subsidy will be paid directly into farmers’ accounts on behalf of private sugar mills. It will be over and above the state-advised price (SAP) of ₹416 per quintal, which is the highest in the country, making sugarcane in Punjab the most expensive nationwide.
