News Capsule: Rabi Crop Sowing Begins
★ The total area under Rabi crops has increased by 15% compared to last year. As of October 31, total sowing reached 75.8 lakh hectares, up from 66 lakh hectares during the same period last year.
★ Wheat sowing has risen by 1 lakh hectares, from 2.3 lakh hectares last year to 3.3 lakh hectares this year.
★ Chickpea (Chana) area increased from 12 lakh hectares to 15 lakh hectares, while lentil (Masur) sowing jumped from 2 lakh hectares to 2.6 lakh hectares. Mustard acreage has also improved compared to last year.
★ The faster pace of sowing is mainly due to heavy monsoon rains during the Kharif season and ample soil moisture retained in the fields.
