News Capsule: Rabi Crop Sowing Gathers Pace
★ The total sowing area is 85% above the 10-year average and 4.5% higher than the same period last year.
★ Total rabi crop sowing has reached 53.676 million hectares, compared with 51.276 million hectares during the same period last year.
★ Wheat sowing has shown the sharpest increase, jumping 17.18% to 27.566 million hectares, versus 25.843 million hectares at the same time last year.
★ Pulses sowing has reached 11.711 million hectares, compared with 11.54 million hectares last year.
★ Chickpea area has increased by about 4% to 8.491 million hectares from 8.467 million hectares last year. Lentil sowing has edged up marginally to 1.46 million hectares, while sowing of peas, urad, and moong has declined.
★ IGrain India believes that in the final figures, chickpea sowing may end slightly higher than last year, lentil sowing is likely to remain normal, and pea acreage may decline.
